Welcome, August!
August is here – summer’s last hurrah.
August tends to take me by surprise – every. year. How is it that I never quite see it coming? It feels like the summer is just getting started, and then bam… the calendar turns to August and we’re no longer looking at the summer stretching out before us, but counting the days until the start of school and the resumption of our usual hectic activity schedule.
Cooler temperatures, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice everything have their draw, for sure, and we’ll enjoy them when their time comes, but I refuse to say goodbye to summer just yet. To make the most of the time we have left, the kids and I sat down and came up with a list of things we hope we’ll do before the end of the month.
Host a pool party – or two – with friends – at Grandma’s.
Build a fire in the fire pit, cook dinner & make S’mores for dessert.
Stargaze. Work on the Scouting America Astronomy Merit Badge.
Make homemade ice cream.
Eat sushi.
Explore Cape Cod.
Bake pizza in the pizza oven.
Go Geocaching.
Bake cookies for our new neighbors.
Try out a new summer recipe.
Clean out the garage. (I added that one. The kids sighed… loudly! We’ll see how it goes.)
And there it is: our plan to make the summer last just a little bit longer.
How is your family planning to send summer out with a bang? A last minute vacation? A get-together with friends? Or maybe a relaxing evening spent stargazing and catching lightning bugs?
