The Big Snow

The boys are convinced that it was their prayers for snow that brought the six inches of fluffy white flakes to Northern Virginia Sunday evening and into Monday. That’s fine, after all, we have been telling them that the Lord not only listens to all of our prayers, but He also answers them all: sometimes in the way we hope or expect, and sometimes not. Why should this hastily voiced prayer for snow be any different from a more carefully thought out prayer for a kinder brother or a more patient parent… or 88 bunnies?

If they were excited about the inch and a half of snow we had a few weeks ago, you can only imagine how they responded to over six inches of precipitation! Well, maybe you can’t, because in fact, they complained: it was too hard to walk in deep snow, their saucers didn’t go fast enough down the hill with so much snow, the wind was blowing the snow into their eyes…. These boys are indeed hard to please at times.

Even so, they did seem to enjoy their morning of sleigh riding before heading home to complete a modified day of school, a task they found most unjust, and which was made only slightly more acceptable by the promise of popcorn and home-made hot chocolate before math.

The Best Hot Chocolate
(According to Ryan & Connor)

1 cup milk
3/4 Tbsp honey
1 tsp cocoa
dash of vanilla

Mix in a microwave-safe mug and heat until hot.
